Pitt Band Join Our Ranks! Instrumentalists
Instrumentalists

Deciding to join the Pitt Band is a life-changing choice.  Since the University of Pittsburgh does not have a school of music, and music majors are not required to be members of the marching band, we all participate in Pitt Band because we love the experience it has to offer.  It is more than just a group or activity, Pitt Band is an experience of its own.  In addition to our love for the pride and tradition that we represent, we are incredibly close within our sections and the band at large.  Pitt Band goes beyond excellence in marching and music.  It is a group of unforgettable individuals who have chosen the opportunity of a lifetime.  Chose to join the Pitt Band...

...and Your Life Will Change Forever!

Auditions will go year round and continue through the summer. It's never too late to join Pitt Band! Instrumental auditions are on a one-time basis for new members. This is to evaluate basic instrumental skills. Participants are encouraged to schedule an audition during their PittStart Sessions (you will have plenty of free time), but we will also accept a videotape or audiotape with a letter of authentication from your band director.  Recorded auditions may be e-mailed to the band office. Prospective members should prepare an approximately one-minute selection of music. This piece may be an etude, a concert piece or marching music. If you do not have a selection prepared, we will have music for you to play. Additional evaluation, such as sight-reading or scales, may also be needed during the audition.
